Nationwide - Supporting homeless individuals into their own accommodation.

Local charity Amicus Trust is celebrating after making a successful bid for funding from Nationwide Building Society for work to support homeless people and tackle housing issues in the area. Nationwide, the UK’s biggest building society, has been looking to support charities dealing with the many issues around housing and made £500,000 available to help make a difference to communities across the region.
Now Amicus Trust has been confirmed as one of the charities that have successfully secured the grants they applied for.

Kellie Ormond, Marketing and Fund-Raising Manager from Amicus Trust, explains: “The Nationwide Community Grant will help provide funding for a Skills Development Worker and Mental Health Worker who will support vulnerable homeless adults in developing the skills they need to move on to their own home and avoid homelessness in the future”.

Janette Grose, Senior Branch Manager at Nationwide Building Society, Bedford Branch said “Helping people into homes of their own is at the heart of what we do as a building society, which is why it is great that we can make funding available for local homeless and housing projects such as the Amicus Trust. Nationwide Building Society offers its staff paid time off to help in the wider community, and our team here at Nationwide in Bedford are also in consultation with the charity to discuss opportunities for the staff to get involved in volunteering.”

Nationwide invited applications for grants of up to £50,000 for housing projects that have the potential to strengthen communities and help make a difference in local areas, ranging from innovative new housing, improving conditions, to supporting the most vulnerable.
A Community Board of Nationwide members, employees and local housing experts was appointed to have a say on which local community projects were supported.
