a date was set for the first session. extremely.

well. In addition to football and fitness, this link up could result in some of our residents getting qualifications in FA coaching, SIA stewarding and also hospitality. There is even the possibility of employment with the MK Dons further along the line

The initial sessions are for veterans to attend four MK Dons home matches with hospitality packages and the opportunity to discuss issues with experienced coaches and fellow veterans as well as personnel still serving in the armed forces.

Dates for the MK home matches are: Saturday 22 Jan, 26 Feb, 26 Mar and 23 Apr 22.

When the football season is over it is planned for trips to places such as Bletchley Park, the National Arboretum, MK Museum, Gullivers Land and Alton Towers etc.

The MK Dons SET Armed Forces Social Club also have the capacity to provide employment for veterans in coaching, stewarding and the hospitality sector thus giving our veterans the chance to gain experience and get paid employment in a wide range of roles.

The first session: Sat 22 Jan

The initial football match on Sat 22 Jan went very well with veterans from the Wing and Sandy projects in attendance.  The veterans found it an excellent opportunity to meet and discuss things with fellow veterans, serving personnel and the experienced coaching staff from the MK Dons SET team.  Representatives from the Royal British Legion and Armed Forces Covenant personnel were also in attendance.  The day was a very worthwhile experience with the only downer being that Doncaster Rovers spoiled the party by defeating the MK Dons 1-0.

It is expected that the veterans who attended the initial meeting will spread the word and that more of their comrades will take up this excellent opportunity in the future.

MK Dons SET Armed Forces Social Club Second session: Sat 26 Feb 22

The service users have also taken part in the Armed Forces Social Club. This has been set up by the MK Dons to ensure that current and ex members of the armed forces socialise and engage with other service personnel for mutual enhancement of physical and mental wellbeing.

The social was a great event, the veterans enjoyed the hospitality of MK Dons and the banter and networking opportunities that go with meeting other veterans from nearby. Representatives from the Royal British Legion and Armed Forces Covenant personnel were again in attendance.

The day was a very worthwhile experience and this time the MK Dons ran out worthy 2-0 winners against Bolton Wanderers.

Since the veterans who attended this meeting enjoyed it so much they are going to spread the word and perhaps more of their comrades will take up this excellent opportunity in the future.

This opportunity is open to all Amicus Trust veteran residents so get in contact with your housing management worker to find out more! Funding available for travel and refreshments.
